Hello,

Did a bunch of searching and reading on the forum, didn't seem to find the info I was after, so going to ask.

7 PP for next year, can draw something like Unit. 19, 23, 35, 108. No horses. Likely limited to a tenting site that could be driven to and hunting from there. Would consider a drop camp if something was available. Three experienced elk hunters, all have shot many bulls. Looking for unit with good success rates at good bulls, probably 300 and above. Given our points, the aforementioned units seem to be good choices, wondering if anyone has information on those units. Accessibility to animals without horses? Bulls in particular large or large in numbers in the units? Seems like those have good public lands for the most part, am I missing something in figuring that? Other units that would be worthy of consideration with 7 PP? Any other relevant information? Lots of previous experience hunting Unit 79 (loved that hunt for many years) Thanks in advance.

i think 35 offers the best of the units u mentioned. Plenty national forest, moderate tag numbers and good success rates. Unit 19 I've read can have access issues with where the elk are come season. Same scenario with 108. Don't know anything bout 23. Now I'm from Alabama so this is just my research I've read but I have no personal experience there. Are some of the western units outta reach point wise like 62, etc? I know a lot of that is grizz and horse country though

108 is gonna be real tough for a bull without paying for an outfitter. Most of the elk are on private during bull season.

My son had a tag there in 2012 and he did kill a bull but I would say that depending on what you think a bull should be in size it will be difficult. There is always the chance to kill a good bull but without access to the private land it will be hard...

19 is a good area if you have some time. Randy Newberg and his cronies have shot some good bulls there the past few years. I drew it twice in three years a few years ago. However I have a good friend who has a ranch in 19 and have been fortunate to hunt his deeded ground as well as his neighbor's landlocked public ground that I accessed from my buddies place. Hunted 23 year before last as I had access to another friend's ranch. Shot a good 6x6 but had to put in a lot of days to do it. Hunted a large chunk of the area and passed over lots of small bulls and broken antlered bulls. Was disappointed in the quality especially as compared to 19...
