Hello everyone! My family has been going to Wyoming for almost 7 years now to hunt Elk with bows. There are 3 of us planning on going to Wyoming this year as group and we have a combined average of 5.0 Preference Points. We was considering burning our points for the first time this year. We have been wanting to hunt unit 38 for quite some time, but I've read a lot of people say that area is crowded. Also, it doesn't appear we will draw that unit this year with 5.0 average. We was considering unit 41 this year. The harvest and success rates are pretty impressive! In the past we have been drawing General Tags and hunting Unit 89 (Greys River) as our Second Option, but we didn't draw last year due to an abundance of people choosing General tags as 1st option. We really want to hunt Wyoming this year and that's why we are considering burning our points so we can go hunt and we hate to burn them on a General tag of a place we have been going for years. Does anyone have any personal experiences with unit 41 or 40 or anywhere in the Big Horns? Or have another unit that with a 5.0 average there is a good chance to draw with a great previous experience. We aren't road hunters and don't mind hiking in a few miles to drag out a trophy bull, we are horn hunters not meat hunters. Thanks for any advice, it will be greatly appreciated!

Well I've applied for 45 but don't have the points to draw. I've heard pretty good things about 40. I would apply in 40 due To 41 being open to type 1 hunters for bow season. Area 40 doesn't allow type 1 hunters in bow season just the type 9. I think I'm right about that. But def double check. U should draw 40 in the special draw. With that said, I don't actually have any personal experience tgere, just what I've read. How was the hunting in 89? I'm really curious about these units around jackson hole. 85 89 86 etc. Fill free to pm me

WVbowhunter88c, I don't have much to offer by way of advice but I'm quite interested to know what others have to say and what you find out. I'm building my points (3 at the moment) so I'm also looking for a WY unit that can be drawn every 4-5yrs and have been thinking the Big Horns, units 40 and 41, might be good options for archery elk.

Good luck to you and I'll be sure to pass along any information I can pick up.
