I'm trying to plan a drop camp elk hunt with my dad for his retirement. I was wondering if anyone knew of any outfitters that offered drop camps in the wind river mountain areas. The lander side or big sandy area would be my areas of choice. I don't really need horses but I would pay to pack out meat that way. Mostly just wanting a drop camp where they set everything up and we show up and hunt elk. I would be willing to go to different areas of the state no outfitters offer a drop camp for these areas. I'm not looking at going on this trip for a couple years. Just wanting to get an outfitter picked out and start planning. Thanks for any info you have.

Best bet would be to call WYOGA...tell them which areas you are narrowing down to, and find out which outfitters are permitted to do drop camps within them.. In wyoming there is very few drop camp type outfitters in comparison to a state like colorado that every one seems to do it plenty. A lot of that is due to permitting not being given out, therefore the outfitter cannot legally pack in someone and leave them. But there are outfitters that have the proper permits, im just not sure exactly who, as most probably dont advertise it much. You can also go on www.wyoga.org and do some more research on areas and the outfitters that are in them. Just start making calls/emails to outfits and that should get you started to getting it planned out.

Thanks for the replies. I have looked up a few outfitters online. Not too many at all that offer drop camps in the area I want to hunt. There are more if we hunt a little north of where I planned. My dad isn't too thrilled about hunting in grizzley country. He said he would've been more up to it 10 years ago when he could run faster than me!!! Looks like we may have to round up some horses and take our camp in. Either way, it will be a great trip. Haven't been able to spend more than 3 days hunting with him for forever. His job was to demanding. Now he will be retired in January. Can't wait to get something together and hit the road.
