Applied for moose in a unit that 100% of applicants with 9 points drew out last year. I have 10 points and was unsuccessful. I think the combination of unit closures due to wolf predation and the ever growning numbers of people in the points pool is causing point creep. I would be very hesitant to buy points for moose in Wyoming if I was just starting out. With over 26,000 people in the game you might be in for a very long wait for a moose tag in Wyoming. Does anybody know if Wyoming is working on a plan so that we can get wolves delisted?

Exactly..........I posted about this topic previously. All the 11 point poolers are coming out quickly now to burn their points. Points required in all the mid-tier units will surge as you experienced. It started last year and will get worse. This year I applied same as you, for a unit where all in my point pool drew last year who applied (100%). But in my case I was relieved to learn I did draw my unit 20 with 11 points.

Going into the 2010 draw there were something like 4500 people with 10 or more points in the applicant pool for moose. I don't know how many draw cycles it will take to clear all of them out, but after that it just grows exponentially. Like I said before, it's just not worth it if you're just starting.

Congrats Zim! Next year I'll be cashing in my 16 points for sheep! Still have a few years for moose since I drew one in 2000.

I didn't draw Moose with 11 NR points. What's bad is I had better odds several years ago with 9 points in the same unit than this year. I had my bags half packed. I'm really bummed out. I figure I'll have to wait until they have to give me a tag, no drawing a lucky permit out of the hat.

You know, it's getting to the point where the G&F is shutting down the moose hunting due to the wolves, tags nowadays are a pittance of what they were in 1994. I did hear that the wolves are delisted in 8 states....EXCEPT Wyoming! Is Mead waiting untill all our big game is gone?? Why not have them listed as trophy game statewide? Must be rancher influence.

they should just not let anyone apply for like 4 years to clear some of the high point holders. colorado should to the same its a joke anymore. they need to come up with something.

Anyone know how the moose seasons run in Wyoming? The regs just say the season in my unit 20 opens Sept. 10th, but I don't see anything else. Is that for the archery season? Then rifle runs from Oct. 1-31?

If you can navigate the Wy game and fish website Its listed under the hunting tab were it says hunting regulations. You will find out that the season goes from Sept 10-Oct 31st. With an additional archery season from Sept 1 thru Sept 9th.

I had already looked all over and could not find that on the WYF&G website. Another hunter told me it was archery Sept. 10-30, then rifle Oct. 1-31.

OK thanks. I must not have scrolled down to the bottom of page 2. Hmmm, that's just a few archery only days. I will likely not have time to bowhunt prior to rifle season as I expect to draw NM elk Sept. 12-22. Some of the moose will likely be picked over by then. Anyway, the weather will be cooler.
