A couple questions for folks familiar with unit 84. It looks like checkerboard of private/public land in this unit and a lot of roads. Is most of this land owned by the gas companies and able to be hunted? Are there many bucks in and around Miller Hill? Thanks for any help.

I have no idea who owns the private checkerboarded land, but unless they allow you through that land or it's a public road all the way through the private to the BLM, it would would not be legal to hunt it. Your best bet is to call the G&F or the local county folks to see what the deal is on it.

Doesn't matter if it's owned by gas companies, RR or other private landowners, without permission, you may not access private lands.

Obviously, from looking at a map, the vast majority of unit 84 is innaccessible w/out permission from the private landowner.

The Overland owns a giant chunk of 84. They don't have much interest in allowing hunter access due to proposed wind generators being developed on their place. The Espy's and Fillmore also have a sizeable chunk. Gene Carrico with Out West Outfitting is in charge of hunting on those 2 ranches. There are also several other small scattered ranches but those are the ones with the best deer and elk habitat. With little (if any) hunting pressure on the Overland you can kind of guess where the bucks and bulls go once pressured.

From what I've heard you are right Topgun. That's what I mentioned in my post above. With a ranch that size not being hunted you can imagine where the critters have been congregating the past couple years. It's a sad thought thinking there are going to be roads plowed and wind turbines covering a large chunk of that gorgeous country!

Alot of wind turbines have gone in around here the last few years. Some places they cut 'freeways' all over the place and I hate to even drive bye it and some they hardly did anything other then put the turbine in and everything around them is still farmed.
