Archery season in Wyoming is grouse season in the mountains and sage grouse season on the plains. Buy an upland game bird license before you come out to archery hunt or antelope hunt during September. Blue grouse are outstanding to eat. They also fun to chase with a bow. Western Wyoming has roughed grouse also.View attachment 16584

I love blue grouse! One of the best tasting birds out there if you get em early when they are eating berries and not pine needles. There is a good population around Reno and it's great to get out there walking the hills the month before general big game and chukar start.

A couple years ago I was walking off the mountain after a disappointing last weekend of archery deer hunting and saw a blue grouse sitting in a tree about 20 yards from me, I knocked an arrow and missed him by about an inch! Once I got home I looked and saw that archery grouse hunting is a thing and it wasn't just me trying to be robin hood. I have planned on taking my bow with me on a grouse hunt this year.
