I didn't draw the unit I was going after last year, but now I have one more preference point, and really want to hunt antelope this year. Hopefully my luck will change! Me and a couple of buddies are rookie antelope hunters out of Florida looking to shoot our first Antelope this year. We are ultimately trying to find a unit with good antelope numbers that gives us a strong chance of finding mid 70s bucks. After doing a bunch of research, we are primarily looking at units 63(2), 73(1), 107(1), and 108(1).

I would really appreciate any insight you can provide regarding these units and comparisons between them if anyone has familiarity with more then one of these units. Most of what I have read has been pretty positive, but I would definitely love to hear from someone that has hunted or driven by these areas recently.

Thanks so much,

Gaston

Gaston, I am also applying for some of those units that you listed. And, I am also from Florida! I would also love to get some insight on some of those units. Thank you so much

Of those units I'd take 73 and I'd hunt the west side of the unit. All good units just my 2 Pennies.

I agree with go_deep. 73 would be my top choice of those units, mostly because of access and options, but they all look like they could have potential. Maybe 63 a second if you could find a place to go. I think Green Mountain might be in that area? Not for sure. I just drove through there, but after South Pass it was all a blur.

I also have 2 points this year, could draw some good units in the special draw. But with not much experience it sure is tough to pick one!

The biggest thing to consider when choosing an antelope unit in Wyoming is public land and access to it. If you draw a unit with good access your biggest challenges in harvesting a mid 70's antelope with be field judging and keeping your finger off the trigger long enough to find one!

Yep, gotta agree with MM, too lol. The public land access is a big deal for the envelopes. There were quite a few animals along on the road this past weekend from the Lander turn on 789 I think to Muddy Gap. That highway hits a couple of those areas I think. One really nice one that was already almost two times his ears outside Jeffrey City, but it was marked private. If that helps at all, they are there now.

I need some advice. I'm applying for unit 73 as my first choice with two preference points. It will be me and my buddy and we will only have four full days to hunt for two bucks. It will be our first Antelope hunt, and we're from Florida, so definitely can't do any scouting or a return trip. Our trophy expectations aren't too high. We would be very happy with low to mid 70" bucks. Will 4 full days of hunting for 2 of us hunting together suffice in this area?

Thanks.

2 hours is enough if your not really picky. Took 8 hours of hunting for us last year to fill 4 buck tags in a unit that is not near as good as 73, and we tagged 1 net Bonner 2 mid 70" and one guy that can't count 3Rd from the left (he shot the wrong one). Go have fun don't worry about the time.

I got a fair 76"er out of 73 in 2012,,,but now unit 73 will likely take 3 or 4 points unless you go with the "special" tag price.was in antelope unit 107 last year and seen some in there down on the blm,{was mainly hunting elk higher up}p m me if you draw the tag if youd like.

63 is over hunted big time and shot out. Its proximity to Casper and the abundance of doe tags they issue has really hurt that unit. It is living on past reputation from being pimped by the mags. I would take any of those other units first.

If you want some good fishing while you're out west, it's hard to beat the Miracle Mile of the Platte that forms the SE border of 63. Great fishing for trout and would be a great time if you like a combo cast and blast hunt.

I hunted 63 about 3 years ago and there were plenty of goats during a drought year. I know quotas have dropped since then. If you just want a low to possibly mid-70's buck, I don't know why you couldn't do that over 4 days. You'll have to lay off the trigger some to get there though. Apply for doe tags wherever you put in. They are cheap and allow you to get into more animals/meat for the ride back to FL. If properly taken care of, antelope is some of the best wild game fare out there.

I had a 63-2 tag a few years ago. Lots of antelope, quite a bit of public land and an average amount of hunting pressure from what I experienced. I did see some bigger ones- probably low to mid 70's like MWScott72 mentioned but didn't shoot one (I shot a small one) because I can't judge them very well and have no patience. It seemed like the northeastern part and the south portions of the unit had less pressure with most of the hunters in the central portion of the unit.

Just my 2 cents.

63-2 is getting worse by the year. 200 tags in that small area has taken its toll, along with the 2012 drought.
