This is my first time going Antelope hunting too Wyoming and would like to find a place I can draw a tag! I have read alot of post on unit 7 and 27 for Antelope? Found where unit 7 has alot of walk in areas but everyone says not good public access? Unit 27 I can not find any access but everyone says it has public access? Not sure where to look?

In my experience walk-in access doesn't necessarily mean that it's good access. They try and get you into areas where there should be an abundance of goats. With the harsh winter and wolves we have lost a lot of our goats. Some helpful advice would be to figure out the area you want to hunt and than check the odds of drawing for a nonresident. More than most times if your not looking for a buck you can pick up a doe/fawn tag.

I am not an expert on WY by any means, but I have been researching unit 27 for next fall as well. Most of the unit is Thunder Basin National Grassland (Public) and there looks to be a good amount of state/BLM land as well. If you like a paper map - I suggest the Benchmark Maps Road and Recreation Atlas. It has a land use section that shows public/private and also has a full topo section as well. There are also some good online maps, but I haven't used those as much. One you may look at is huntinggpsmaps.com - they make a map for gps that combines topo/BLM/hunt units onto one map for $79. For either area, if you call the Sheridan office of WYGF, they can connect you with the area biologist that can confirm your hopes/fears (the number is 307 672-7418). We are hoping to draw 27 this year.

Like I said, I have not been there, but have been researching heavily for 6 months. Another resource is the WYGF website. They have draw odds, harvest reports, etc for each unit in the state.

Hope this helps a little.

We are wanting to go to Wyoming this fall also and both have bought one point last year, but were hoping to go to a area that we could public land hunt for a buck and a doe! Hoping to keep building points for a trophy area in a couple of years and draw a area like 27 or 7 as a second choice. Sounds like 27 has more public land!

Thanks for the info REVCWOOD!

I hope it helps. Looks like we're in the same boat. Should draw with one point, according to last year.
