Wondering if anyone has had any success hunting zone 163 in Wyoming for mule deer? I will be in the area on an antelope hunt and I am thinking of putting a mule deer tag in my back packet. I have talked to a forester about the zone and have some ideas, I am just wondering if any of you have any experiences in that zone. Thanks for any help... feel free to PM me too.

Do you have points? Odds are you may not draw the tag, you have to apply for region Y and some drew last year with no points. Be wary if someone told you you can buy a tag when you get there or if you can draw with no points.

Wow, this is a huge coincidence. I too, hopefully, will be hunting the Kaycee/Midwest area for antelope this october. I've been trying to decide between Region Y and M. Looking at last year's stats, M was 100% draw success while Y was around 62% success. Both the areas have between 50-65% hunter success.

Either way, good luck to you.

I think most of that zone is tied up by the Bar C ranch. There is BLM access through the property but a lot of people crowd onto the little bit of public you can access. You might stop at the ranch foremans house and you may get a trespass permission. We hunted it before and it was like 100-200 bucks to access but they allowed a ton of people on it. I think they set a limit of 200 people on the ranch. They may have stopped it because the masses, you and me, were screwing up the roads and we found a 5 point elk that was shot and left for dead. It cant hurt to ask.

IF you get a goat tag kill that animal first. we made the mistake of wwaitng to get a deer before we went to get a goat and they were all shot up; decent ones anyway. Still hunt through timber once the people start pushing the deer around, we missed a giant forked horn in the timber out there one year
