Ive been trying to figure this out on the WY fish and game site but havent found an answer yet. As a non-resident does your first choice go into the preference point drawing and then 2nd and 3rd choice are in the random drawing?

Correct me if Im wrong but there are two drawings; random then preference points. Random is random, doesnt matter how many points you got. If your drawn random u get ur 1st choice.

Your then ranked by points for your first choice pick, I actually have no idea how they do 2nd and 3rd. Good question

Everyone is in the PP drawing with their 1st choice.
Everyone that didn't draw that hunt is then moved to the Random draw and their 1st choice is still active, but, you will be sorted by a different random number. (you get 2 when you apply, one for each draw) They go up the list of the 1st choice guys till they run out of tags or applicants.
So, if there are 100 tags and 99 1st choice guys, 75 guys will draw in the PP draw, and the other 24 will draw in the random draw. If only 74 had points, one guy with zero will draw in the PP side and the others will draw in the random.

You're sorted by points first, then your random number in the PP side, re sorted by the new random number in the Random draw. WY is a low number state, they go up from zero when looking at your random numbers.

To answer your question, they look at every 1st choice before they go to 2nd choices.

Thank you. I ended up going through the odds pages with a calculator and figured a little bit out but this really helps.

If you follow a hunt from the PP report to the Random report, you will see the the remaining 1st choice guys from the PP side moving to the random side. You would of course need to say withing the draw type, either special or regular.

Thats what i finally figured out. I hadnt looked at the PP odds much since I dont have any but I was happy to see a few muley regions can be drawn with just one. Makes for decent opportunity to rotate a muley hunt with maybe antelope every other year.
