I have 5 deer points and been studying on where to use them other than in region H and G. I talked to a biologist last week and he suggested 117 and 119-2 both can be drawn with 5 points. I also been also looking at 125 and 34 but not a sure bet on drawing those Looking for 160 plus deer. Will be 67 yr. old by deer season and still in good shape but don't want to burn them on a sub par area. Any tips on these areas will be greatly appreciated.

I've hunted 119 and 34 both. I think honest 160 bucks are probably bucks that I would shoot in either area. I didn't put in much effort in 34 during the hunt. I spent some time scouting in an area I saw a slug of a non-typical the year before, couldn't turn him up. I had other conflicting tags, and then came down with the flu the last week of the hunt. I limped around the last 2 days, feeling sorry for myself, shot this buck the last 15 minutes of the season:

My wife drew the 119 tag and we saw a lot of smaller buck mule deer, the best we saw was an old, wide 3 point that wouldn't have scored much, but was a great buck. She ended up killing a nice 5x5 whitetail. Again, I think if you shoot a legitimate 160-170 mule deer in 119, you've done well.

Neither hunt is very physically demanding...good luck.

I hunted 34 last year and had a lot of fun. I saw a huge body at dark one night but couldn't find it again. I saw a fair amount of deer but no monsters. I kept looking at a nice 4x4 but shot a 3x3 w/eye guards because he looked a little taller. He was also 5 1/2 years old.

Thanks Buzz and Manualman. If the draw odd remain the same, I can't draw 34 with 5 points in the special. A little Leary of burning 5 points in 117 without some more info. Been looking at that 142--162 area also. The 2015 MRS said I could draw both with 5 points but the 2016 stats say no way. Could wait out another year but I may just be chasing points.
Age and time have a way with ending ones hunting career. Like some wise Wyomingite on this site said, there are no deer areas in WY worth saving10 points for. He said just pick a good general area and learn it, no truer words were ever said.
Have a few more months to figure it out.
Thanks all

Did your wife have the late season 119 or the early season?

I would avoid 117, I believe its 45 or 55% wilderness, its really rugged, lots of grizzly and not a lot of deer. I scouted it two years ago before deciding on hunting G last year. Seen several grizz well away from wilderness. I only spent two days in their and did see deer.

With your age and depending on physical condition 34 would be a easier hunt, just not sure about getting a 160 there since you have never been in that unit.

I know 117 would be a lot harder to hunt that say 125 or 119. I'm in excellent shape for my age I run 3-4 miles four times a week and lift weights 5 days a week. Sure I'm slower but can still go almost any where to hunt. I'm just trying to burn my 5 points wisely with a chance to kill a decent deer. Would love to hunt 34 but 5 points in the special may not do it. I have some more time to figure this all out. I appreciate all the info I have gotten from members on this site. I haven't ruled out a hunt in region H or G but leery of this winters weather and its effect on the deer herd.
Thanks
Bob.

Have you looked at 78, 80 or 81. A fair drive for you but deer are better over here now. 160 is very doable in the Snowies if you hunt hard in LQ areas. Limited wilderness areas and good road access but enough country to get away from folks and find a deer.
