I've got a November bull tag here in Nevada ( Ely) and am looking to up grade some of my late season cold weather gear. I've got it narrowed down to wool coat and pants with wind stopper or the Kuiu guide pants and jacket. I will also be wearing this weekly as i check traps ( lots of utv time ). Any sugestions?

Thanks Nv

Check Availability on the KUIU. That may make the decision for you.

I'd wear something you could exert yourself moderately in and have Carhartt Coveralls for the UTV ride..

There is a lot of new stuff out there like kuiu. But wool has worked so well for me I have a hard time spending the money on something new.

Hi nv-hunter. I'm looking for the same type of advice for a late season moose hunt. I've been looking at KUIU but the stuff is so hard to get. What wool products are you looking at? I have all the base- and mid-layer stuff, just looking for a good outwear option. Late season sure has its own set of challenges.

I went with the Cabelas outfitter wool parka pants and vest they were on sale for half off last week.

If you don't mind the weight they will keep you warm and they will block the wind.

I've got the vest and have been happy with it. But this year I'm trying a very lightweight 800 fill down jacket to put under my outer jacket, plus a Houdini wind jacket and fleece pullover. I'm anxious to see how they do.

I've opted for a KUIU or Russell APX outer shell layer and I'll use wool and fleece for my mid layers. I have the Cabela's outfitter wool bibs for stand hunting whitetails and like them but they will be too much for spot and stalk hunting. I also don't like how long soaked wool can take to dry out. I hope to shed most of the snow with my outer layer and will rely on my wool and fleece mid layers for warmth.

I wear a combination of kuiu/wool for hunting during the winter (~0°F-40°F). I have the kuiu guide jacket with a lightweight Russell shell jacket underneath and the cabelas woolmate pants with merino wool base layers. This set-up breathes well and wicks away sweat. I'm comfortable whether I'm still hunting coyotes or hiking ~3-8 miles in snow in search for elk or wolves. The wool pants are on the heavy side but eventually I will upgrade my winter pants in the future.

Kuiu or similar for the outer shell. Even Cabelas MT50 works great. Fleece or down jacket under neath. Next maybe a vest if you really need it and lastly a quality wool base layer. Layers allow you to control temp better. I wear that in just about any conditions. I wouldn't wear wool as an outer layer any more. Too heavy, not as warm, doesn't breath to let moisture out, not ideal if expecting bad weather etc

I'm adding a 100g Primaloft puffy layer to my options this year so will have fleece, wool, and now Primaloft as options for insulation under my shell. I'm going to have to experiment to see what works best. I also would like a thick 100% down layer for the late season but that doesn't look like it's going to happen this year.
