Still can't believe it. but my wife drew an early cow elk tag (for Sept.) and I drew a late bull elk tag( Nov.). both for units 061/71....We have never hunted those units before. Do any fellow members have information you would like to share with us. " No honey-hole info expected" My wife and I don't hike much anymore mostly road hunt and take short hikes. We are both "old farts) mid-sixties with issues!!!! Hunted most our lives together. Married 45 yrs .Still my best friend and hunting partner.!!!!! Sorry, I ramble lately!!! Heard some talk about copper canyon and Merritt Mountain. Any help will be most appreciated... Thanks in advance, blu bronco,,,

Welcome to the forum. Head over to the new members section and give us a intro. Sounds like you folks are in for some fun with two elk tags. There are a few guys here that know the areas well. Stick around and you will get some help.

Copper mtn is near the Jarbidge wilderness just west of the boundary of 071 and 072 and is quite steep. I have seem some nice bulls in that area though.
The area along the Bruneau river might be more to your liking. It is high rolling sage flats with lots of cover along the river as
it heads up toward the mountains.
Area 061 is not quite as rugged. There were some fires up there about 5 or 6 years ago and I find that those burned areas attract game are a good place to start looking.
If you are camping there are some nice primitive spots along the road that divides 061 and 071. You could do some scouting across the road while hunting for that cow elk. Just keep in mind that road get really muddy when it gets wet.
Just in case you're not familiar with the area.
