I am thinking about getting rid of all my knives and getting a butcher.;)
probably be cheaper.
Kind of hard to pack that butcher out into the hills to take care of your deer or elk.

Now there are some who will clean your animal for you but then you have another problem of getting a whole deer or elk to them to get it cleaned.

Love this thread! Why is it that dudes can't get enough of knives?

When I was with the Mule Deer Foundation We used to put common cards on the tables at banquets asking what we could do better. Unanimously, no matter which town we were having a banquet in, it was to have more knives.

The next year we would have more knives and on the common cards we would see written unanimously again, more knives.

It didn't matter how many knives we had at the event, it was never enough. Lol!

It all depends on what I feel like packing for the hunt.

I have a Gerber Gator that sees a lot of use

I have a Havelon that works also, but mostly for capeing a animal.

My Outdoor Edge also sees a lot of uses along with a Browning RMEF razor blade knife.

Then there is my Buck Woodsman if I am feeling nostalgic along with my Buck 110.

My Old Timer folder has seen a lot of work ever since I won it in a drawing. I had a choice between a hunting vest and the knife and I made the best decision.

Then I also have a dozen or so hunting knife supplier. Anywhere from a Buck Pony lock back up to 3 and 4 blade ones.

I have a wood box that my nephew gave me one Christmas and it is plum full of knifes of all different descriptions. When people ask me if I have enough knifes I just tell them that knifes are like guns. Keep buying them until they put you under.
What's your recommended hunting knife? I need a new one. I figure it should be sturdy, not too big, able to hold an edge and have a fairly straight blade so it sharpens easier. And, it should be a fixed blade. It's horrible trying to clean gut juice out of a folder.

That's a wide open question.

I have a Buck Woodsman that is a smaller fixed blade that I liked and used quite a bit. But I have looked at a Gerber Gator fixed blade, I like the handle material, it is just easy to grip even with blood covered hands, and the Gerber steel holds a pretty good edge.

But I have to say that in the last 15 or so years I've just been packing folders. Either the Gerber Gator folder or a Outdoor Edge Razor.

The big thing with folders is that you need to clean them before the blood dries or you'll be in for a time cleaning it.

I’ve been using a Benchmade for quite a few years now and it does a real good job of holding an edge and is easy to re-sharpen.

So I have been using the CRKT quite a bit lately and it has been a very nice addition to my collection. It is in my pocket just about every day for the day to day tasks.
