I had all intentions of using Matt until it got up to 95 degrees last December 29 when I shot him. Then by the time that we got out of the canyon that we were in I was still thinking of him until I remembered how far the drive was and that his rack wouldn't fit inside of my cooler. Then all plans changed. Anyway I need to stop in and BS with Matt the next time that I am down that way. I might have a plan in mind for another animal.

I asked the taxidermist to send me some pictures of him but never got them.

Jim; just got back home from my CO muzzy deer hunt. My sister survived the experience, and taking her along actually made it easier for me since I had to slow way down for the hike in/out. I did see some deer, but the only 4x4 was at 400 yards and cresting the ridge to go to cover. Opening morning I was sitting at my chosen spot watching a nice slope with the thermals in my face. Shortly after first shooting light, two hunters came out of the trees on top and walked right down the middle of the slope ahead of them. They couldn't see the deer they pushed out, and they didn't have a clue as to what they were doing. No shooters in that bunch, but it could have worked out for me. On Day 2, those guys showed up at 10:00am and while one posted himself under a tree, the other guy walked back and forth mid-slope for much of the day.....for what purpose????? So, I walked an hour in the dark to get to the next slope where I did see the 4X4.
My 9 day hunt was cut to 4 days due to my sister's schedule. Next year, no compromises and I will be solo again, even if my wife isn't happy about it. I left the tracking on daily on the GPS, and hiked 22 miles, with a total vertical ascent of over 32,000 feet. I sure didn't expect to see anyone else in there.

Hunting was a little bit different for me this year. I actually saw more bears that I did deer.

I started hunting up around Sawmill Basin and saw 1 buck and 3 bears, a sow with cubs. I hiked into a wilderness study area and jumped a nicer 4x4 but didn't get a shot and on the way out I saw a couple more bears. I also went up high into the area that is set up for the high country rifle hunt and saw the most bucks that I saw all season. But no real shooters and on the way out in my truck I had a bear running down the road in front of my truck for a hundred yards.

I should of picked up a bear tag to go with my deer tag.

On to next year muzzle loader hunt.

I was in #43, as I could draw it with no NR points. I shot a decent buck there in 2014 after trying to draw an early rifle tag twice with no luck. Same no draw story in #66 the following year, then the killer winter in the Gunnison. I finally used my 10 deer pts. in #44 last year, but didn't score there. I am confident that if I had the full season and no one else holding me back that I could have tagged out in #43, but the last packout from there was a killer so I would think long and hard before pulling the trigger. I have the pts. to draw in WY area H again, and may just take my 30-06 and dedicate the full 3 week season next year up high in Griz. country. Still have 11 elk pts. in CO with no real plan as of yet.
