Has anyone had trouble with grizzlies bothering them in a wall tent? Heading back to western Wyoming again this year and thinking about a tent this time... Thanks for any advice!!

We were elk hunting in WY out of a wall tent two yrs. ago, and had one huffing and growling outside the first night. It was a little unnerving, but I think it was just curious. We grabbed our guns and started hollering, he ran off and never came back.

I think I would lose my s**t if that happens!!
Maybe if we do I will bring a battery and cow fencer and put around it..

I lived in wall tents for many nights in grizzly country. .but ours were surrounded by 11,000 3 strand fence at all times. ..one year the first night of set up we didn't get the fence up. .I had a grizzly less than 2 feet from my head huffing and it was one of the most tense moments I've had in life. .luckily he just passed through..I do know of bears tearing the hell out of wall tents though. .any protection you can have would be worth it IMO..of course depends on how thick the bears are in ur area etc..

For what its worth and its just my opinion, there are guys on this forum that spend a lot more time in grizz country that I ever have or will.......but a good nights sleep is critical and the only way I got that was a electric fence with bells.

When I was hunting a grizzly up in British Colombia I slept like a baby. Perhaps that log wall that was around me and the dog outside that did it for me.

Other than that a electric fence around the perimeter and a 12 ga shotgun loaded with slugs next to me and I bet that I would sleep quite well in a canvas wall tent.

Ok, so usually if you have the fence up they will stay out??

And will a cattle fencer work, since we would set up next to the truck weight won't be an issue? Thanks for the info, please keep the stories coming, giving me ideas.

We are in sunlight basin south of Cooke city so bears are pretty thick!

Yes you are. Can you hike and hunt with an electric fence around you? I know that's not funny, but I would have to have one. I respect you hunting up there. Hope all goes well and you knock one down. Good luck.

Does it matter what you use? Poly wire galvanized or the netting? Poly would probably be easiest?
We always just had ribbon wire..ran 2 hots bottom and top with a ground in the middle..ran off deep cell marine batteries. The bears would hit it and bark and growl, but never made it into camp. We did have one learn to rip down the fence around where we kept meat before sending to the trailhead. .being that you will be at your truck, I would be far less worried about everything than if you were far in the hills. .biggest thing is just keeping a clean camp. When I ran pack trips all summer I never slept in anything but a camping type tent, and never had an electric fence. .we kept clean camps and I had grizzlies walk right through them numerous times with no issues.

Thanks a lot for your help, appreciate it! Probably rig up a fence before we go, would just make sense.
