Utah Black Bear Questions

I'm looking to add black bear to my out of state applications. Wondering if someone can give me the low down on the Utah bear draw, hunting etc?

I see where you have to take a course to get a bear license. So I need to take this even if I'm only looking to gain a bonus point this year? Most importantly... how long does it take???

Where can I find how many points it takes for the different limited entry bear hunts along with success rates and other unit information? EDIT: I found the points to draw info. Still looking for the success rates per hunt unit.

Looks like the deadline to apply is March 3rd? Is this for both spring and fall bear hunting? Or are you applying once to hunt for the year, both spring and fall?

I'm sure I'll have more questions since this is new to me, but this should get me started. Any information on bear hunting Utah would be greatly appreciated!

Looks like nobody hunts bears in Utah? I put in my app today so I'll answer some of my own questions in case anybody else is interested...

Yes, you have to take the yearly course even if your only putting in for points. It only takes 15-20 minutes and is pretty easy.

Like I mentioned above, you can look up the points to draw info on the Utah web site. I never found the success rates but I'm sure there on there somewhere? The Utah site has a lot of info on it and I'm not real familiar with it, so it took me some work finding things.

You apply for spring, summer, and fall licenses at the same time. Looks like you can apply for up to three choices. I only applied for a point so I'm not sure how the choices work? For example...I'm not sure if you can hunt both spring and fall seasons in one year or if you have to choose? It wasn't real clear.

Hopefully this helps someone else out...
