Hey guys,

Long time lurker, first time poster here. Wondering if anyone knows where to find relatively up to date elk numbers in Idaho? Their DNR only had up to 2011 for most zones, some as old as 2008. I've heard they've been working hard at depredation, I just can't find any results from it really.

A couple of friends/family members and I are trying to plan an elk trip to ID for 2017, but after a month of hard desktop scouting I'm running into a point of exhaustion. Every time I seem to think I find a decent spot, I read about some significant negative (have to have horses, fires, need guide to find elk, etc). We have a scouting trip planned for summer but still no zone. I have a statistical analysis of the harvest results that is borderline obsessive, but harvest results can be deceiving... I like to know overall herds numbers.

If anyone knows where to find info like this please let me know, ID sounds like a lot of fun and we'd love to help out with the wolf problem :)

Thanks!

I used to hunt there a few years ago but stopped due to lack of game and way to many hunter for my liking. We hunted the Palasades and Tex Creek units.

Amazing country but the critters were are and few between.

Ah man that's not good news... we have points building in CO so that's not really an option. Any suggestions on where else to start? We kind of put all of ours eggs in the ID basket.

You can build points in Colorado and hunt it. It's hard to get information about Idaho because it's has so much otc hunts. People are shooting themselves in the foot by letting other know where they hunt. Just pick a spot and go that's what I did. It took me a few days to find the elk but I did.

Hey Tim, are the herd numbers on the Hunt Planner too? I must be blind... I'll have to double check tonight. Thank you everyone for the words of encouragement! We're not giving up by any means.

I don't know that. but the hunt planner does give harvest info for each unit. I do know in the regs, they color code which units are above objectives, at objectives and below objectives. but they do not tell you what the objectives are.
