My brother and I would like to do a wilderness elk hunting trip in unit 60 in 2018 and we're hoping someone on this site might have remmendations on an outfitter. We are both in good shape and are interested in a rifle hunt. Getting a bigger bull would be nice but we are most interested in just trying to get a bull of any size. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum

Head over to the new members section and give an intro.

You shouldn’t have any problem finding and outfitter that can meet your wants on this hunt. Good luck

Welcome to the forum. The reality is that it may be difficult to find an outfitter who has an opening for 2018. Those that always have spots available and send out mailings after the tags are drawn, likely have those openings for a reason. It is important to do your due diligance and contact any references that you can, including clients who didn't tag out. If the outfitter won't provide that info, them move on with your search. To draw an area #60 GEN tag, it took 2+ pts. this year on the regular draw, and you can't get a point in the year that you get a tag. This is also an archery unit, so that is a different app. with some different draw odds and possible openings. Good luck.

I've hunted the Thorofare numerous times; some guided, some not. Bill Perry of Hidden Creek Outfitters is a standup guy. If I was going to book another guided hunt up there, it would be with him...

What he said. When I was doing a guided hunt I always looked 2 years out. And even then some outfitters were booked up.

Hunted the Thorofare in unit 60 in 2017 and unit 56 in 2016 with Butte Creek Outfitters. Ron and Rachael Lineberger run a good camp. Sometimes you can catch a cancellation

Ron Lineberger's a clown. The guy was tied into a sheep poaching incident in the early 90's. If I remember right, he lost his outfitters license for a number of years. Then a few years ago he was found guilty for a variety of trapping violations, received a large fine, and supposedly lost his trapping privileges for 20 plus years. Last guided hunt I did in the Thorofare, he rode into a drainage that was part of my outfitter's lease. My guide got in his face and started chewing his azz. His hunter looked bewildered. He'd be the last outfitter I'd book with.

He is a clown, from what I heard the only way he can have a outfitting permit is because his wife isn't a criminal.
