Unit 521 4th season

So we drew a 4th season second choice tag for unit 521, north of West Muddy Creek and east of Highway 133.

I was looking for some suggested camping spots or areas to camp. We have quads, but I would rather not travel a long distance from a camping area to a hunting area. Also I'd rather not pull a trailer up and down multiple roads looking for a spot.

After deer season here I plan on spending some time looking over the topo map. I assume, depending on the weather, the elk will have moved into or be moving into the winter range at that time.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Don't know that area real well, BUT it goes without saying that any 4th season buck tag should be pretty damn good. Far fewer hunters, closer to the rut and depending on the weather, the deer should be down in lower country.

Good luck!

I should have been clearer...it is a 4th season cow elk tag.

So I have spoken to a Forest Service wildlife biologist and a person from the CPW, Gunnison district and gotten some info. We decided not to take the quads, due to a lack of open MVU roads and the road conditions being generally good. onXmaps just got some of my money for a Colorado chip and I've been studying Google Earth and the Colorado hunting atlas.

Any other input?

Thanks.

I have hunted 521 in the past. I think its road 265, but there are some good campsites and the road is good. Always went the third season and had good success on cows.
