Unit 51 Elk Help

I'm new to using a forum and was wondering if anyone was willing to help me and my friend with some information on Unit 51 Type 9 elk tag. We are from Idaho and drew this tag for 2019. We are wondering if there are some good elk hunting outside of the wilderness or is it a unit we need a guide? What is the Grizzly population like? After drawing the tag it we saw some articles that said there are lots of bull bulls that move in after the weather moves in later in the year but we are hoping there are still elk to be found in September. Would love to find big bulls but really we are just hoping there are areas to find some decent bulls to have a fun hunt and call some elk in. Been archery hunting since 1995 in Idaho and looking forward to seeing some new country. If anyone is headed to Southwest Idaho for Elk or Deer I would love too help.

just curious , how did you draw a 2019 tag when the regs aren't even out yet and the draw application period is may1 to june 5th??????????????

Sorry, I left out Wyoming on my original post by mistake. Yes Wyoming unit 51.

You should not have an issue finding bulls, there are resident elk in the unit. Look up high in Sept. There are ALOT of grizzly bears.

There are definite pockets of elk in that unit early. Some drainages will be empty and some will hold bulls. All of the drainages hold grizzlies.

Yup, plenty of grizzlies in that area for a pretty good pucker factor. Do not hunt it alone!
