Unit 51 - cow elk tag

I was just offered to buy a landowner voucher for Unit 51. It's a cow tag. I have never been elk hunting before.

How difficult is the hunt in this unit?
Is it mostly thick timber and some meadows or open?

About to start doing some scouting on Google Earth.

Does any one have any experience in this unit?

What would my success odds be?

I have been in the unit in the area east of San Antonio mt. Its open with uneven terrain. I think you should talk to the local game warden, I believe he lives in Tres Predras.

Excellent elk population in the unit especially after migration begins. The wardens # is 575-779-4103 I think
