A few buddies and myself are doing our first ever spring bear hunt in Idaho and have settled on unit 12. I know northern Idaho is very dense but it appears this unit is still decent for spot and stalk which is how we hunt. We plan to backpack in for about a week and don’t mind putting on the miles to get away from the roads and bait hunters. Certainly not looking for honey holes but any info you can or will to share would be appreciated.
I’m focusing my efforts on the eastern/central part of the unit south of Highway 12 since according to google earth and GoHunt maps it looks like it opens up quite a bit and is much less dense with trees.
We plan to go end of April into the first week of May. I know that snowpack can be a problem still but how is Highway 12 at that time of year?
Again, just looking for a bit of help if you can share it.
Thanks all!
