Another point for me too. I'm questioning whether I even need to worry about the non-OTC turkey units since a fair share of them are in the high country where the roads are closed until May. What are your thoughts on spring turkey hunting in units like 36 or 37 off of I-70? It sure would be nice to have only 9 other hunters around me in the entire unit!

I don't have any knowledge on the units off of I-70. The limited unit I apply for isn't a high country unit. I drew a few years ago and had good luck. I got a Tom the first morning there. Not sure if it was just luck or if it's always that good? I hunt the OTC units close to home every year and the hunting is pretty bad. I'm sure there are some decent OTC units in CO but not sure where. I hunted at least a couple days every week of the season last year and heard 3 or 4 different birds gobble the whole season! I did have one decent opportunity, but it didn't pan out. I'll be tromping around again this year hoping to find the needle in the haystack... Good luck this year!

Thanks for the info. I spent the last few years turkey hunting in AZ and would hear gobbles just about every day, everywhere I went. I'm hoping I can make something happen this year in CO. Good luck to you too!

My son drew a tag for the youth hunt in GMU 103. If anyone has any tips on the South Republican SWA, I'd love to hear them.
From a friend.....lots of birds....he thinks you can still camp there which makes its nice......past years from the dam to 385 was the good spots....thinks that has changed due to more crops in the ground providing options for feed over a bigger area....skip the opener and start hunting the second week. All the best.
