I was looking on google earth at some of the panoramio pictures from this area that i'm scouting, and one of the pictures had a guys email on it so I decided to email him and just get any info out of him about the deer in the area and stuff like that, and this is what he replied back to me haha....

"I'm sorry Jason, but I'm one of those people who think that modern-day hunting is barbaric and abhorrent. The wilderness that we are lucky to still have in Nevada and throughout the American West is sacred and divine, so to enter it with the intention of killing and blasting the brains out of the awesome creatures who live there and have the right to life as much as any intruding human being makes me sick. Hopefully, you will come to learn that it is eminently more satisfying and humane to shoot wild animals you happen to encounter with a camera and not a gun."

Wow, a simple "I don't hunt" would have done just fine. Blasting the brains out of awesome creatures, yeah that is what hunting is all about, what an idiot. He is probably one of those people who doesn't understand where the food in the grocery store comes from, or worse yet a vegan lol.

I've run into people like that on the trail. Let me tell you I would much rather get an email back than deal with them face to face. It kind of makes me laugh that they have no idea what hunting is all about.

Well....they make it seem like we all take the head shots!!! I do on whistle pigs and giggle when they go 20 feet straight up....still not sure why it makes a grown man giggle, but it does. LOL

But when it comes to big game? I have thought about it, had the heads in my sights, but never taken that shot, just waited till the broadside presented itself.

Now this year when they open up the wolf hunts again...there will be some giggling with a good head shot for sure! There will be blasting of brains in the woods from me!

Good job, I have gotten lots of hunting info from animal lovers and HIKER'S BLOGS. If they only knew how much we scour the web for hunting info they would stop sharing their outdoor adventures and photos of the cool deer they saw. I love it. Keep it up, we have thousands of years of hunting history/traditions to back us up. The need to hunt is primal and anyone who hunts can out last some vegan any day of the week when needed. They are not self sufficient at all.

If it was not for hunting the game population would be overpopulated and the "Tree Huggers" would be calling on hunters to help them with the deer eating their flower and veggie gardens, the bears rummaging through their trash cans and the mountain lion that just eat their pour poodle in their backyard. Hunters admire the great outdoors and the creatures that live there just as much as the “Tree Huggers”. I could go on and on, but this is only giving the “Tree Huggers” validation. I was born a carnivore with teeth to eat meat, a brain more complex than animals to out strategize them and the will to survive.

so i wrote this guy back and this is what i told him...
"Thank you for your response. I would have to disagree however. Just because I am a hunter doesn't mean that I don't appreiciate and cherish the wilderness that we still have here in Nevada; in fact I would go as far to say that I enjoy the wilderness more than anyone I know. I'm not sure where you got the idea that just because I'm a hunter I'm going to "blast the brains out" of an animal? I believe that through hunting I've gained a greater respect for the animals because of all the time I've seen them and spent around them in the wild. I also only bow hunt so it makes it feel more accomplishing when I am successful (which isn't very often). Every piece of meat from the animal is taken to the butcher and me and my family eat it till its gone; we use it as a way to feed our family (the same thing as going to the store and buying a steak). I don't just kill animals for the heck of it. I respect those animals greatly and I'm not going to change my opinion on that. Just be aware that I don't just kill animals for the hell of it. I do it because I greatly appreciate the animals."

"You won me over man, so when are you having me over for elk burgers ?!

Seriously, as much as I hate this country's whole obsession with guns and don't like running into hunters out in the woods, I appreciate you took the time to explain your bow-hunting avocation. Most guys probably would have just said, "f*** off!"

Btw, I've explored them from both their east & west flank, and the S***** range really is spectacular.

I think most treehuggers have a great heart, they are just a little misguided. You chose to educate this man with a calm and non-agressive approach and he listened. That is awesome and gives me a little hope for the future of our divided nation. I do believe that if most treehugging vegitarians could be educated they would stop with the protest to hunting. I myself have been successful in getting several longtime vegitarians to secumb to an elk burger. Even the most diehard veggie cannot resist the wonderful aroma of an elk cooking on the grill, even though some wont admit it. You can see their mouths watering as they give a half-hearted "no thanks". Then, looking at a bowel of couscous and tofu say, "maybe just a bite!" And another person finds the primordial spirit.

This is one of the better threads I have read in a while. Good job Hubba. I think we all should take the same approach you did with this guy, but I myself would have probably told the guy where he could bury his head. I might have added to it though, that my anemic children can only eat "ORGANIC" red meat is why I do it. Good job again with the way you handled it.

A well done response hubba20. As hunters we need to be winning over more of the anti hunting community with dignity and respectful responses instead of the easy "f*** off" messages. If tree hugger respectfully sees more of what you showed him from all the others hunters out there that he meets, he might end up joining in on the hunting scene himself one day.

Great job Hubba. The easy thing to do would have been to tell him off, but kudos to you for taking the opportunity to educate and hopefully dispel, with at least one guy, the stereotype of the bloodthirsty redneck hunter.
