So I'm flying into Albuquerque on Aug 10 and flying out on the 15th. In addition to Scouting on the VV, I'll be interested in checking out some of the local attractions on my way to and from.

We land at 6pm and need to shop for groceries before heading to VV. Probably will spend the night near Taos on the way up. Renting a small SUV for the trip.

Suggestions for places to see while travelling?

One thing on the list is the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe.
I was intrigued by the Hot springs near Taos.

Any other ideas?

Lots of stuff to do in Santa Fe. Look on TripAdvisor for New Mexico Attractions.

Going north from ABQ:

The National Museum of Nuclear Science & History (in ABQ)

Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument (just N of ABQ) - very cool rock walls in various shapes

Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi (Santa Fe) - gorgeous cathedral looks like it belongs in Europe

Bandalier National Monument (Los Alamos) - ancient Indian cliff dwellings - takes 3 hours

Bradbury Science Museum (Los Alamos) - the secretive place they built the bomb.

Taos Pueblo (Taos)

Rio Grande Gorge Bridge (Taos)

Greater World Earthship Development - 1.5 miles N of the gorge bridge on Hwy 64 - This is a cluster of self-sufficient “green” houses built using mostly recycled materials – used tires packed with earth form the walls, while bottles stacked with cement and crushed aluminium cans make colorful peepholes. The resulting homes look perhaps more suited to hobbits than humans, but several hundred people live here and in similar houses in the vicinity. They produce their own energy, reuse grey water, manufacture their own bio-diesel fuel and grow much of their own food.
