Question gentlemen, hopefully some of you guys are local to the areas where the elk are... Is it too early to start hitting the mountains in search of some elk sheds? I fear most of the areas get picked over pretty fast when April comes around. Just looking for some advice. thanks!

It doesn't hurt to start. The big ones usually shed first anyways. I will admit I have seen 6x6 mature elk in the 320 range packing the 2nd week of April. Multiple on the same trip. I think it depends on the year and health of the animals. If you got time start going you can always scout where they are and check back often. In western Wyoming it's illegal to shed hunt before May 1st. I saw a guy yesterday that was pulled over by the WG&F with a big elk head on top of his car. When I came back an hour later they still had him, not sure why.

Not sure about the elk but there are still lots of deer still packing horns here in Nv. Many have dropped but I'm still seeing lots with horns still

It should be any day now I have been out to some of my favorite haunts the last couple days and still seeing elk wearing some good sized antlers
