Had read some negative reviews about them. Some people said it doesn't put heat far enough forward to warm your toes. Would like to hear more about what you think about them. My toes get pretty chilly when sitting still for hours in -20 weather.

They have hole in the front of the insole so that heat comes out by your toes. As far as -20 I don't know if anything will work when it's that cold, but in the single digits, I think it was 5 above, they worked good. My guess is people want there feet to be perfectly warm or comfortable in all conditions. They worked for me.

Hmm, I wonder if a good pair of baffin boots wouldn't be a better purchase for those extremely cold days. Right now I am using a cheap pair of snow boots a size to big with a couple pairs of heavy socks and some hand warmers pushed up to the toes.

How long do the soles heat when on the high setting (actual time in cold weather, not advertised time)?

Careful with those hand warmers. I used to do that too....then had one burst on me and the stuff got all over my feet and chemically burned me pretty bad. I got gun shy about them and have steered away. I too have looked at the rechargeable ones, yet worried about wet feet shorting out a battery.
