I just got back from a Rv trip with the in laws and was very surprised at the amount of rice farming that takes place in CA. They irrigate so much that I understand why they claim to always be in a drought. They are sucking the rivers dry to grow rice in the desert! Looked like a excellent place to pound some ducks though, and you guys probably don't have as many duck commander wannabes to deal with as we do.

To be honest most of the rice farmers are still fighting for water. Most of the water that comes from Northern Ca is cannaled to south central to water the Pistachio market, Pomegranate and citrus. This year is an exception with all the rain but normally it's a fight for water for the rice farmers. My step son that is in these pics was a rice farmer for the passed 10 years until this year. He walked away from his lease.
