This is my antelope camp and my hunting set up for weekend trips. I used this set up plus a cook tent on a November elk hunt with no issues. For heat during the later hunts I have a big buddy heater and a lantern just about works in the mornings to take the chill off.

I like this as I can still run the truck towing the side x side to other mountain ranges is needed.

Another great set up nv-hunter! How far off the road are you allowed to camp on BLM? Is it one vehicle width, or it doesn't matter on BLM?

I'm probably 10 to 15 yards off a 2 track in this photo but as you can see very short grass cover because the cattle and horses had eaten it off. Just use common sense don't drive over tall grass or brush to get to an area or camp right on water ( 1/4 to 1/2 mile away) most good camp spots and the so so ones that are left over if you show up late have been used before so just look for something that has signs of prior use and no signs saying stay out and you should be good. If you want a full list of whats allowed call the recreation planner for that BLM district.

Yes its 15 miles from pavement 5 miles on a main gravel road 3 or 4 mile down a side road then a mile down a two track. My antelope blind was 3 miles past this. That old tent has been past down by guys at work a couple of times. There was 2 of us in the tent plus cooking gear its been used every year for at least one hunt after i got it. Earliest hunt August 1 latest hunt November 6th .

What is a two track? Is it a quad trail, I mean how do you distinguish it from forest service roads or dirt roads?

A two track is a road where you can drive a 4 wheeled vehicle as opposed to a single track road which is foot, horse, or motorcycle traffic.

And its just 2 tracks not dirt all the way across most blm roads aren't numbered or named by the way just the main roads.

If you can see 2 distinct tracks or tire width trails that is a 2 track road open for driving. They do not have to be marked or well used just there and discernible. For areas with few roads look for 2 tracks along the fence lines, most state sections and BLM fenced pastures will have 2 tracks along the fencelines.

I didn't read through all of the pages, but I will offer my $.02. I have hunted and camped in WY in a walmart tent, just did it first week in Sept this year and last year mid Sept in the high country. It was there 2 person 4 season back packing tent. Int the high country it was sheltered from the wind, but this year when antelope hunting I camped on BLM and broke camp ever day. You don't need the top of the line this or that. As long as you are smart about where your camping and how you set up.

HuskyMusky, I'm starting to lean more towards that. It depends on if I have to drive far to hunt. What about a pop-up camper? I have one of those that is easily towable.

I've hunted from the local motel...it was "nice" but the constant drive was annoying...have done the pop up too...that was pretty nice...lately its been a toy hauler with all the bells and whistles...that's really nice. Almost, felt like we were cheating. This year back to basics a canvas tent limited appurtenances and to me that is fine. The more you have the more you worry about and the more that can do side ways.
