Well I didnt draw my units I chose, unit 16's are always tough. But I was given my 4th choice, Unit 9.

I've never hunted unit 9 ever. If anyone has any input on the unit that would be appreciated.

Last year I hunted 16E for elk and unit 17 for deer. If anyone has any questions on those units let me know.

Thanks

Which hunt for 16E you do last year?

I hunted a ranch only cow tag in December in Unit 9 and have a story with an unhappy ending. Will share via pm.

My friend tagged out two years ago in this unit, just gotta catch 'em on the checkerboards though. Know you boundaries, the USFS strip might be promising.

I hunted a ranch only cow tag last year in late December. We saw one group of elk the first day then the weather warmed up and they went back up the mountain. I think the elk that are there are up the mountain, and weather pushes them down.

I'd definitely look in Water Canyon and check the back side of Mt. Taylor and the more harder to get to parts of that mountain.

The Bibo Bar and Grill has a phenomenal green chili burger if you are in the vicinity.

That unit has a reputation for being tough, though. I think the Rez lands get poached pretty hard and people are always complaining about too many tags in the Unit.

Best of luck though, only takes the right one in the right place!

I drew the 16E tag this year, any info would be appreciated, thanks!
