I'm cheap, I've only bought 3 bows in the last 25 years and all have been different brands . I have spent less than $1000 on all three combined, the last one was a Bear Charge ready to hunt package for $399 I bought it in 2011, I kill elk with it just fine.

I started out in the late 60s with a re-curve Bear Grizzly 57lb. Never bow hunted from mid 70s to mid 80s. Picked up a bear Black Bear compound, given to me by a friend who got a new bow. Next was a used Browning Viper, got stolen out of my garage. 2002 got a Martin Jaguar Mag. package deal for 350. 2015 saw a new Bow Tech RPM 360. Nice bow but comes in a just under a grand. Like 999 bucks. I did get an elk with it last year and shoot it better than any other I've owned, but dang a thousand bucks.....I like the bow but still do not see how it costs that much. I recently read an article which addressed the idea that bow manufacturers were pricing products right out of average hunters range. Local bow shop says no problem so far. New and expensive models don't stay on the shelf long.

There are some ways to get deals on used bows. Buying a bow on ebay is usually a good way to go. If you get one that is 2 years old for example, plan on putting a new string on it. Even with a new string you can save several hundred dollars. Bows last a long time, and most people done put enough arrows through them to barely break them in after 2 years of shooting. Just my thoughts

There are some really good companies out there if you are willing to try. Athens makes a great bow but not a lot of people know of them.

I have only bought one bow ever, 2009 Diamond Archery Iceman ready to hunt. Only component upgraded was the sight a couple of years ago. Shoots a 357 grain arrow at 280fps. If I were to buy a new bow, any brand would be possible.
