Ok, I sure ain't no big backpacker guy! I had a total knee replacement in 2008 and it still gives me problems, so hauling heavy weights is not something I do much on my back. That's what the horses backs are for! I have been using a little Cabela's elite scout daypack for more years than I can remember, and it has been okay, but it often causes me a lot of shoulder pain. On our elk hunt I noticed that the zipper on the main compartment is having issues, and is likely to open while I am hoofing it somewhere, so I started researching backpacks. Thanks to all of you guys here for all of the information. I have decided on the Stone Glacier Solo. I looked at Kifaru, Mystery Ranch, Kuiu, Exo Mountain, and I just like the looks of the Stone Glacier system best. I don't pack all that much weight on most of my day hunts, but why not have a little extra space and ability to pack out a boned out buck and do it all with the same equipment. I look forward to putting it to good use the rest of the season. Thanks again for all of the information you guys have posted.

I use the Approach for day use. When packing in I will strap Cabelas roll top bags on the sides, bottom and if needed the top. Put the food between the pack and frame (load shelf). When I get to were I'm camping I can unstrap the cabelas bags and I'm ready to hunt.

That's what I like about his system. It's totally modular and adjustable. If I'm not mistaken, once a guy has the frame he can just order any of the bags and you have a new pack, correct?

I hunted in the timber yesterday in about 5 inches of fresh snow for whitetails. I really like this pack! It was so much more comfortable than my old Cabela's daypack. I found a KUIU hydration bladder hanger bag that fits perfectly, So I can hang the bladder inside the pack bag and still have it inside a bag just in case of any leakage. It was only 15$. I like the idea of hanging the bladder between the frame and pack but it would be a chunk of ice here in late season. I have to be sure to blow the water back down the tube after drinking so that it doesn't freeze. I'm loving this pack, just have some sore muscles because I spent all summer working and the exercise program went lacking, now I'm paying for it!

I ordered an Approach bag for the frame too, and have been using it in the timber looking for a whitetail, and felt like it was a touch noisy in the brush, so started looking for something like a fleece cover, and the only thing I could find was a $90 one that I wasn't really impressed with. I decided I'd just make one. It's pretty basic, but I think it may actually work pretty good, and it will fit both the Approach and the Solo bag too.
