With turkey numbers still on the low end, our strategy this year was to hit them hard and fast. Trail cameras in our best spots, along with boots on the ground scouting, made for a successful opener. My youngest son and I doubled down opening morning, by calling in two toms and a group of hens and jakes. I think his was a 3 year old bird, and mine was 2. Identical 9 1/2” beards. That evening, my oldest son and I went to another property and waylaid a tom with 3 jakes and 3 hens on their way back to roost. Shorter beard, but he was just happy to get a bird after not having any time to hunt last season.
