Looking for any information about the mule deer herd around Wall, SD. We are looking to do an early season archery hunt on public ground. Any information on any public ground in south dakota would be great.

No info here, never hunted there. I'll be following this thread as I'm thinking of bowhunt one out there either this year or next. I do know that their G&F site has a pretty robust map system showing ownership, among other details.

Go scout before the season - can fly in and out of Rapid any weekend.

There's an ok atlas the state puts out. Just gotta start pounding out likely areas. Have see some slammers in out of the way places while archery antelope hunting.

We hunted hard, but the heat literally killed us. There was zero deer movement, little sign, and we were drained. Mark and I discussed our options and came to the conclusion that we needed to pack up camp and head further west to some areas that I have hunted in the past.

I've been successful in my last two trips to that area spotting and stalking Mulies... Certainly seen some trophy class animals but they are few and far between. It is a much harder hunt (physically and mentally) then people think and the deer most cut across public traveling between their private bedding and feeding areas. With that said it was an adventure and the mid day prairie dog hunts was a nice way to pass time
