Well, the last couple months, my Dad Has Been Working Hard To prep his stand in Vermont to be able to hold 3 of us, as I planned on bringing my Son back there to hunt the youth weekend. Vermont is a great state to start, where the kids get 2 days on the weekend before the regular rifle season to shoot whatever deer they want. It can be a buck or a doe, a fawn, whatever, and no antler restrictions. My Dad had a bunch of shootable bucks on camera, plus lots of does. Plus, my Dad already got a 7 point in archery a few weeks ago, so the stand had a little time to settle down before my son's hunt.
Anyway, we didn't care what he shot, other than not shooting a fawn. So the first day came and went, and not a deer was seen. We still had fun though, 3 generations in the stand together, watching the squirrels, partridge, geese, etc. But the second morning, it came together. My Dad and I were actually whispering when my son said "Dad, Dad, deer.....deer"...... Well, a few seconds later, with a well placed shot using Papa's 30-30, my son had his first deer. And, it was a buck. We were all ecstatic! Ended up being just a 3 pt, but 142 pounds, bigger weight wise than anything I have shot there......
. Had the tenderloin that evening before flying back the next day. Many great memories!!
