This hunt started 10 years ago building points to some day archery Elk hunt unit 9 this hunt takes 16 or more points this year we decided to put in for unit 10 late muzzy hunt as first choice and the stars must have been aligned because my son drew the tag this hunt also take at least 15 points so we here shocked. After months of planning and scouting Nov 9th was opening day and hopes to find a giant that this unit produces the hunt started off seeing tons of elk our strategy was to glass and move and glass some more the Elk where bedding around 8am and back out feeding around 3pm we found 2 giants 360 plus but they where out just before dark never to be seen again we also saw many bulls smaller 5 and 6 points.
My son had passed passed on two nice bulls that he got within 200 yards he also shot and missed on a vary cool gnarly deformed on side was 6 point and the other side came off the side of his head and bowed out and around almost touching his ass.
On the last morning of he hunt the plan was for me to hike up this hill that over looks a large treed area and glass while he went in the middle of the trees into there bedding area just after sunrise he texted me and said he was surrounded with elk with some rutting action going on (yes the bulls where bulging in NOV ) then he texted again and said he had his eyes on 2 bulls i packed up and hiked down and drove to a new spot 30 minutes latter i get a text BULL DOWN.
He took his shoes off and was able to get within 200 yards to make the shot the elk ran about 100 yards and dropped. Even if its not the giant we where after he's real happy with it For me it was a hunt of a life time.
