Does anyone know if the Bighorns (unit 38)received snow recently? If so, will it start to push the elk to towards Amsden, or easterly towards Dayton? I am wondering how much snow it takes to ruin the rifle hunt?
Yeah, I remember the locals last year telling me..."ahh it's just an October snow...dont worry about October snow..." In the back of my mind I was thinking 16" is a lot of snow not to worry about. That was down in Medicine Bow.
Actually we didn't do any hunting. My dad and I had the week off work so we just went out to do some scouting for the mule deer rifle season. Did see a couple good elk that some bowhunters had tagged though.
Hopefully it's not raising hell and screwing up the rifle elk hunt. Any updates? What part of the unit should one concentrate on now that some weather has hit?
Forecast is showing upper 40's-50's through next weekend so snow pry wont last to long. Looking at the webcam around bear and elk lodge it isn't showing any snow left.

So what does that mean for the elk in that unit? is that good news for us rifle hunters or should we be doing a Indian snow dance to get them riled up some? I am leaving tomorrow from Cali and will be scouting the unit for a few days and if you have any tips it would be greatly appreciated. I have some areas to concentrate on from the Dayton warden but any additional info cant hurt. Thanks in advance.
