Sleeping Bag Liner

Has anyone used a sleeping bag liner? I have a 15-20 degree bag and I'm considering adding a liner vs getting a bag with a better rating. I've seen liners which claim 5-6 degrees up to 25 degrees increase in warmth. Anyone have experience with the accuracy of these claims? How easy is it to get back in the liner in the middle of the night (back country minimalist tent, tired 1/2 awake, etc.). Thanks

I have used liners (my current -20 degree bag has one) and they do add warmth to the bag. The only ones I've used have been in rectangular bags that zip all the way open. The bags had tabs inside that the liner attached to, early ones used a snap, my bag now has Velcro tabs. I have never tried to put one on during the night, probably be a PITA. You would lose all the heat in the bag for sure. One good thing is that they can be removed and washed.

I have used a silk liner to increase the warmth of a lightweight 32 degree bag. It did make it a bit warmer and they weigh practically nothing. That bag was a pain to get in normally and I don't think the liner made it any worse
