Sitka Bivy 45

I already have a Badlands 4500 (the old style) and was looking at the Sitka Bivy 45. I know it is a little lighter (every pound counts), and more of a backpackers style pack, than a true load it up until it/you break hunting pack. Was just woundering if anyone has used it, or would use if for a backcountry elk hunt?

Used one last year. It is lighter and it is a fairly good backpacking pack, but it due to insufficient straps it doesn't handle a heavy load very well.

Well that sucks. Pay 400 dollars for a great looking pack, load it up, and have it dig into your shoulders, and make your hips scream. Sign me up. I was looking forward to loosing a few pounds on the pack. Back to the drawing board!

Take a look at the mystery ranch line. I have a 3day Assault for a day or two pack and it is very well built. The straps are well padded and they have a great line-up of packs to choose from. I don't think it was given a fair shake in the day pack review. I doubt you will find a better made pack than a mystery ranch (even over the badlands line-up) and it is made in the US! For extend stays I have the Eberlestock Just One. Good luck on the search!

Sorry for the Sitka letdown. I can second checking out MR. Used MR packs for years - I know of no better packs for hauling huge loads of gear, meat, etc.. With that said, you may want to check out the new Kifaru Ultralight packs. The KU5200 (5200 ci) pack only weighs 2lbs 13 ozs!!! Apparently, they've tested the pack for ten years before putting it into production. Seems too good to be true, but Kifaru is a quality pack maker so it it just may be the dream backcountry pack.

Sell the Badlands pack and look at MR. They are not light but carry the gear probably better than any other pack on the market.

I don't have any experience with the Sitka Bivy 45. However, a friend of mine used one last year and tore a strapwhile packing out. Sitka stood behind their product and are replacing it.

The Bivy 45 is out. I think that I have to except the fact that if I am going in for 6 days, and going to use it to haul out elk I will not get a light weight pack. I have used the Just One, it is a touch on the heavy side, but that thing will haul a load. The pack was able to haul more elk than my legs could. Few pounds here and there add up. What can I say, I am a picky bi*#%. Will give the MR a look at, but my Badlands 4500 has not let me down, yet.
