Signs of Spring in the Air

Today was the 1st day I noticed them. Raft after raft, flight after flight; of snow geese and speckle belly headed in a northeasterly dependency. This is in east-central Iowa.

I just stepped out to take the trash out and you could hear yet another flight going past in the darkness. It was neat. Ground was still froze here up til the weekend. I think the frost is out now mostly and the rivers are all freely flowing.

Not much yet. The non migratory Honkers are pairing up and starting to stake out nesting areas. I have 4 or 5 pairs that nest on my pond every year. They have to fight off any interlopers.

I saw 2 big gobblers strutting in Western Kentucky last Friday in the rain where I was working.

Not much here yet. Locals who only work during the fair weather months are still in the pub at 2pm every day watching Jeopardy. In the next 3-4 weeks (usually around the spring turkey opener) they will roll off the barstools and begin to toil and sweat for another year.

82 degrees last Tuesday, a new record high was set 3 days in a row. It felt more like early May than late February.

Had 15 inches of rain in the past 5 days. Daffodils are blooming and elms budding here. SE oklahoma

23 straight days of 80+! The water temps are in mid to upper 70's here! Not to mention the beautiful yellow coat of pollen on the cars every morning. Crazy.

Crappies are starting to bite in Georgia. Water Temp hovering around 60 degrees....its about game time....

We are getting a big spring snow storm. They say 5’ in the mountains of snow today. It’s needed we have had a very mild winter with barley any moisture

The annoying redwing blackbirds arrived yesterday here in east central Iowa. One particularly persistent bird lunged at my truck no less than 3 times while I was at a stoplight. [emoji38]
