Scouting after dark. Grizzley Country

One of my favorite and most useful tactices is listening for bugles in the dark. Sometimes while walking a ridge or road. This year I will be bow hunting in grizzley country. So, do you guys more familar with grizzley still recommend this tactic, or is it too dangerous? FYI, I will be with a partner and we both have bear spray.

I wouldn't recommend it depending on how thick the grizzlies are. But bears are mainly active at night in the fall. In the area I hunt, there is no way in hell I'm hiking around in the dark just to listen for bugles, to many bears. I risk it for mornings and coming out at night, but I don't like it one bit.

So, will you even leave camp before sunrise to hike into a spot? With a partner.... I'm hunting the Gravely/Madison area. Are you very familiar with the bears in that area?
More grizzlies in the Madison's than the Gravelies. There were a few incidents reported in the area last year. I would talk to a knowledgeable biologist. Bear spray is generally very effective although not foolproof, but then neither is a gun. I'd carry both if I were out at night. Bears may respond and be attracted to calls. When you go in the woods, grizzlies are the apex predator to be respected.
