Savage model 10 22-250

My son gave me a new model 10 Savage in 22-250. I put a Nikon 6x24 on it and zeroed it with 45gr Winchester ammo. I think it is 1 in 12 twist. I want to stay with as light a bullet as possible, anyone have a load worked up that fits this combo? BTW I like that trigger

What are you planning on shooting with it?

Coyotes and maybe deer, which should mean using two different bullets, mostly coyotes.

If it were me I would go with at least a 50-55gr bullet. Your not gaining much speed in the lower weight bullet but the 55gr will put the coyotes down. I shot 55gr vmax with Varget in my 22-250 and it was the death of many coyotes.

EDIT- not saying a 40 gr bullet wont put them down just not as well as a 55.

I have been using 52 A-max at 3717 fps, I may just stay with that.

My vote would be the 55gr Vmax but if the 52's are grouping well I would stick with those. The only reason that I swtiched to the 55gr from 40gr was that I had shot two different coyotes with the 40gr, both were hit right behind the shoulder at close range (about 30yds) and neither were found. I was crazy with both those coyotes you could see the blood spot behind the shoulder and they still got up and took off. At that point I just decided to go with the heavier bullet. Haven't had a problem since. Good luck xtreme!

1 more for the 55gr Vmax!! I have had great results with them in my 22-250. I dont reload. The other thing I like about them is the ballistics are identical to 55gr Hornady soft points so I can have fun with cheaper ammo that shoots the same.
