Hey guys, so I have a couple questions regarding the Savage Accustock. So I purchased a 116 Bear Hunter in a 338 Win Mag recently and been having issues getting decent groups with Hornady and Nosler bullets. I have gone through the barrel break-in process as suggested by Savage. After that I began working up different loads using the following bullets:
Nosler
180 grain Accubonds
210 grain Nosler Partions
200 grain Accubonds
225 grain Nosler Partion
225 accubonds
225 grain Hornady SST
225 Barnes TTSX
Powder:
IMR 4350, 4831, H4831, RL19, RL17
Primers:
Fed 215, Rem 9 1/2M and CCI250
Regardless of powder charge weights, bullet seating depth, primer combos, etc.... I cannot get better than 5" group at 100 with exception to barnes, those I can get in about a 1.5" group at 100.
So now I'm looking at the stock and the way the action fits in there. I started playing with different torque weights on the front and rear screws and still no improvement. One thing I did notice is when I set the action into the stock, I can grab the scope and move the whole action side to side. Kind of like you set a round tube into an V shape object. With this I started looking closer, removed the hinged floor plate and mag box so I can see if the action is making contact with the aluminum block. I can see that the rear part of the action is but I think the front part of the action and the lug is not. (Pics attached)
What does everyone think here? Does this look normal? Needs to be bedded? Bad stock from savage?
I have retorqued the scope mount, no rings as this is a DNZ 1 piece mount and tried factory ammo. Fed Premium in a 210grn Nosler partition did shoot decent, 5 shot group in about 1.5" group at 100.
