Gentlemen and ladies, I come seeking advice. Finally purchased my all weather rifle (Savage 116 Weather Warrior FLHSS in 300 Win.) after a fruitless search for a lefty Win. model 70. I will be putting a Luepold VX 3 on it and would like to use the Talley one piece rings. My question is will the one piece rings work on a Savage long action with the shorter tube of the Luepold? Also if anyone knows for sure, low or medium rings?

Thanks in advance, I really do appreciate the knowledge and advice from all of you folks on this website.

Cheers,

Plainsman

I would use a Leupold base and rings because they should be made to work with their scope. The rings will also be determined by what size scope you have. I tried low rings on a model 70 and a 40mm scope once and they were to low and have med rings on all my win and rem bolt actions with Leupold 40mm scopes but dont know about the savage.

Which VX3 scope are you planning to use? The 2.5-8x VX3 has a short tub, however, other VX3's have longer tubes and usually don't present a problem when mounting on a long action. I previously used Leupold mounts and rings, but now use the Talley one-piece rings/bases on my VX3 scopes. I would suggest you call Talley and tell them what scope and rifle you plan to use. They are always very helpful and will help you determine the proper one-piece ring/base.

Plainsman, for the VX3's with 40mm objectives, the Talley lows work on my Winchester Model 70 and on my Sako A7 with room to spare.
