What are everyone's thoughts on this gun manufacturer?
Cabelas had a Sako 300WM with stainless/fluted barrel, Carlson stock/floating barrel for $1k.
I really liked the feel and looks of the rifle, but don't have much info on them.

Thanks guys!

Great guns. What model? The 75s and newer 85s are guaranteed to shoot 1 MOA. Some of the older models have less desirable features but basically any sako in any desireable model that is even in very good condition or better is worth $1k.

I can't speak to that model. I have an older Sako 75 Finnlight in 300 wsm. Accurate, light, dependable . . . It has earned it's keep supplying for the dinner table, pert near a member of the family . . .

Apparently, Sako/Beretta made this for Cabelas. Probably not as good as the direct line.... hmmm

I see, you are taking about the A7. It is intended to be their economy model between the 85 and their Tikka line of rifles. They are not just for cabelas but they may make a configuration just for cabelas. We sold A7s where I used to work.

IMO I would save the money and buy a Tikka over the A7 and spend what you save on optics. If I were going to spend $1k or more on a sako I'd get an 85 (well over $1k) or look for a used 75, AV, L691 or something.

Sako makes excellent rifles. But so do a lot of other manufacturers. More often than not, it boils down to preference.

A week ago I checked out a Sako 85 at a gun store. It was a beautiful rifle. It was chambered for the .300 Win Mag. It was a very heavy rifle. In fact, that is the only negative thing I could write about Sakos: with walnut sticks, they are heavy guns.

Bonecollector,

I've recently bought a Sako AV .270 Win from Cabelas that appears to have not been fired. It looks to be in brand new condition. A lady at Cabelas told me that it was owned by a Sako collector. The asking price was $1,200. I offered a grand. My offer was accepted & now it's in my safe.

What Cabelas asks & what it will take might be two different figures.

I looked at the Sako you're considering. It is good looking rifle.

If Sako made it for Cabelas, I'm sure it is an excellent gun.

I have two older Sakos that are in mint condition and you wouldn't touch either one if you only offered me $1K. One is a .243 Forester and the other is a 30-06 Finnbear. Their rifles are cream of the crop IMHO!

I have two sako finnlights, a 270WSM 75 and a 300WSM 85. Just can't beat them without going custom. Very accurate and well made. I highly recommend them.

I have a Sako finnlight in 300 WSM that I've used and abused for the past 5 years. It's by far the best rifle I have owned! The 300 WSM hardly kicks for a 30 cal....especially being as light as it is. You can tell when you pick it up that it's a solid rifle! I think I paid around $1,100 for it 5 years ago.

Two years ago I bought a Sako A7, .270, from Cabelas. I've got several really nice rifles (this one included), but this one is my "go to" rifle. It shoots 1/2 MOA all day long, fits me perfectly, and is a pleasure to shoot. I would highly recommend the A7.

I bought an A7 in .25-06 a couple of years ago from Cabelas. Took me a while to find a load that it would shoot. Finally, worked up a load that gets me 5/8" groups. My rifle has the cheap plastic stock. The stock has pressure points and that can make my rifle tempermental. I have a McMillan stock on order for it. The new models with the B&C stocks should not be a problem. Otherwise, I really like the rifle. I think they are worth the money.
