Anyone hunted dyi in tex crk. ,Diamond crk. in S. E. Idaho last 2 years? Am looking to go unguided next year. Have herad there is lots of elk. Where would a guy camp? only interested in small 5-6 Pts.260'"or so! Thanks, roundball
As kidoggy said, i cant help you on the little bulls.....but other than that, you must make the hunt your hunt. There are elk in the areas you mentioned, now its up to you to find them. There is camping spots everywhere. Where ever you pitch a tent or roll out your bag. The elk will be in there typical spots, under rocks, in caves, in the briar patches. Pretty much where ever you dont want them to be. Idaho is an awesome state and offers non residents an opportunity at an amazing experience. Go with a open mind and willingness to enjoy the hunt. Don't put a size or standard on what your after. Any bull is a trophy, especially if you cant scout and are totally new. But after a few years you will become familiar with the area, then you'll know what to expect and then.....you'll know where the 350 bulls are...
I've hunted Tex Creek a few times, there are lots of elk and hunters, outfitters hit it fairly hard. Even with that, there are areas without a lot of pressure. Early on, elk are usually higher elevation and not on the Tex Creek WMA. Good place to start is across Palisades Lake on the east boundary. The area is open enough to spot and stalk, and call.
