I killed a nice bull last year in 113 or the south side of the rochelle hills and was lucky enough to draw 123 or the north side this year. Im wondering if anybody knows of public access on the north side where there is a chance of seeing elk. Basically is there any chance of filling this tag without paying big money

I guess the logical question to ask is why are you asking this late in the game and not before you looked into that before applying for the tag, especially if you live right out there?

My wife had a cow elk tag in 113 last year. We called the local game biologist (newly hired) and the game warden. didn't get much help from them. We hunted 5 long hard days and didn't see an elk. Wish I could have talked to you last year, Jeff. You better go buy a lottery ticket. Awful lucky to get one of those tags, let alone two in a row!

The cellars loop area in 123 is almost all public. The chances of seeing elk in there is slim though. You will have to pay a trespass fee pretty much on any private land in the rest of the area. The quality of bulls have went down since they went to every 2 years instead of every 3 years for bull tags. If you want a cow late in the game for some meat, most landowners there will let you take one for free.

Thanks birdhunter. I am quite familiar with cellars loop area being that I am only 30 miles from there and have killed several deer in the area. And I agree as to the chances of seeing elk there. The only time I have seen elk there is late season. Oh well looks like I have my work cut out for me
