rifle mule deer hunt with 2pts non-resident

The elk unit in Wyoming I hoped to draw this fall took 4 instead of 2pts to draw this year so I'm looking for somewhere to hunt. I really enjoy mule deer hunting and haven't had the opportunity to hunt them for a few years, so I'm thinking of giving it a shot this fall. I know I don't have nearly enough points to draw a great unit but I want to get back out hunting and see some new country. I don't figure this trip will be about trophy hunting, just want to get out hunting and hope to find a buck that works.

I'm not to concerned with the elk hunting in whatever Unit I hunt for muleys, I'm primarily interested in hunting deer right now. I'm looking at 4th Season in unit 18 or 3rd season in 421 among others. The main reason 421 is on the list is just that I've been there hunting elk before and know the terrain a little. Those are just a couple I have looked at, I'm not set on anything.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. I haven't drawn a tag to go west in 2 years now so I've been doing fishing trips instead of hunting. I'm ready to get back to hunting.

I spend a good deal of time in both those GMUs as both are on my second/third hunt list depending on the years I draw my primary tag. In my opinion......depending on snow depth the best places for deer in 18 I've seen wouldn't let me get into them during 4th season......now that being said......during the rut it may be different and the deer will be moving more so that just might make up for it. I got some more coments on 18 so PM me if you want to hear more.

WRT 421.....I'm not so sure I'd deer hunt in there unless you could get access to some private down low in the late seasons. We 4th season cow hunt there every year on a B tag and see tons of deer but they are already herded up on the private. Usually good amount of snow up high also by that time of year.

There is a chance at a great buck in 421 like this one from a year or so ago..

So since we are "sayin you got a chance" in 421 I guess it is true there is also a chance at a great buck in a lot of units. Well that and you cant deny the genetics in 421. Knowing a unit is half of the battle even if you know it a little bit.

Thanks guys, Wow that is a heck of a buck. A buddy shot one like that there in the 80's, not as wide but probably taller and with lots of trash like that. I drool over it every time I'm in his house. Decisions Decisions!

18 is a fun unit and the 4th season is by far the best for deer i have been hunting there my hole life. There is lots of public ground and you have 4 gmu to hunt with this tag. I have never not got into where we hunt and some times it takes chains all the way around and yes we are the only ones in there should be a great year may be some point creep this year just do to the later seaon dates.
