Hi, I am trying to plan a future hunt and just had a couple questions just to make sure I have everything clear.
A buddy and I have been building up a few points for Elk and realize we have some years to wait to hunt unit 38. Due to that we are looking at coming out next year and archery deer hunting Region Y and doing some scouting for Elk in the process to get to know the area a bit. We are planning on buying a point yet this year to make sure we get drawn next year for Deer. My question is once you get a Region Y Deer tag to hunt Archery in Wyoming you just have to purchase an Archery license there so we can hunt in September correct?
We are kind of thinking we could stay in Dayton or are we better off pulling a camper and staying in the Bighorns somewhere? I have never been to the area and just want to get a feel for what it looks like, there seems to be quite a few roads and access in Unit 38 for Elk. We are both in our late 20's and in good shape so doing day hunts and hiking as far back as we can for the day is not a big deal for us to do some day hunts. We are from the Eastern part of South Dakota so it's close enough drive for us to make a quick little week trip. If anyone has any additional info please feel free to pass it along. Thanks and Good Luck this fall.
